SAVE THE DATE: Multistakeholder meeting “Statelessness in the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum: with focus on statelessness as a vulnerability”, 27 October 2025

On 11 June 2024, the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum approved by the European Parliament and Council entered into force and should be implemented by June 2026. It is the first time that in the EU acquis, binding provisions on statelessness have been introduced. The Pact identifies statelessness as a vulnerability, introducing legal requirements to identify and record statelessness. This marks an advancement in the better identification and protection of stateless individuals seeking and receiving protection in the European Union. The Screening Regulation and Asylum Procedures Regulation of the Pact require Member States to assess statelessness indicators during preliminary vulnerability check of migrants and to clearly register them, pending the determination of whether the individual is stateless.

This multistakeholder meeting will serve as a platform for national experts, EU Agencies, international organisations to exchange their first insights on progress made and challenges encountered while adapting to the new requirements put in place by the Screening Regulation (EU 2024/1356) and the Asylum Procedures Regulation (EU 2024/1348)

In accordance with the European Council Conclusions of 2015, the European Migration Network (EMN) Platform on Statelessness provides a forum for Member States to exchange good practices, challenges and encourages contributions from stakeholders, practitioners, researchers, international and non-governmental organizations.
