.
Date: 24 May 2019
.
Location: University of Luxembourg, Campus Belval, Maison du Savoir, auditorium 3.500, 2 Avenue de l’Université, L-4365 Esch/Belval
.
Cities are places where people live and work together, create new opportunities and develop their potential. Cities are also places where migration and mobility have an important dimension – it is in urban areas where newcomers arrive and their interaction with local communities begins.
The aim of this workshop is to share good practices and initiatives on how cities tackle specific irregular migration and mobility-related aspects (employment, social security, accommodation, integration, return, disincentives for irregular migration etc.); to identify challenges and opportunities that local authorities face while managing migration, including addressing the needs of foreign populations, and views and opinions of host communities; to further elaborate on the role of cities, their needs and responses to various circumstances linked to migration and mobility; and to foster dialogue between cities and other actors through peer-to-peer exchanges.
The event will gather representatives of the European Commission, selected EU cities and regions, central governments, international organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
The Directorate of Immigration and the LU EMN NCP also invite the participants to a social event during the night of the 23th May 2019. The address of the venue will be communicated to you after your registration.
