The Republic of Moldova joins the European Migration Network – March 2021

In March 2021, the Republic of Moldova joined the European Migration Network as observer. The working arrangement represents an important step towards reinforced cooperation in the areas of migration and asylum.

Ms. Monique Pariat, Director General of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, stated: “In order to manage migration better, it is important to increase EU cooperation with third countries. This was emphasised in the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. Having Moldova as a part of the European Migration Network will enable us to share our European good practices in managing migration while getting a better understanding of migration from an Eastern neighborhood perspective”.

Mr. Pavel Voicu, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, said: “Joining the EMN offers to the Republic of Moldova the opportunity to participate in the exchange of reliable, up-to-date and comparable information in the field of migration and asylum. This new cooperation framework will bring an added value and concrete substance to the common visions for the benefit of states, as well as for the people involved in the migration process.”

The working arrangements establish the conditions of the administrative cooperation between the European Commission and Moldova in the European Migration Network that accommodate both current and future co-operation needs.
