The EMN launch event for the study on third-country national victims of trafficking in human beings took place on Thursday, 31 March 2022, 10:00-13:00 CEST.
Third-country nationals account for more than half of the registered victims of trafficking in EU Member States. Vulnerable migrants have been reported to be at persistent risk of becoming victims of trafficking along migration routes. Their detection and identification in mixed migration flows remains a challenge in a number of EU Member States, some of which also relate to tensions with the current legal framework (especially within asylum procedures) as well as to disruption in victim assistance and support services.
The event presented the European Migration Network’s (EMN) main findings on addressing these issues, and sparked discussion on the latest legal developments, priorities, and key findings with high-level European and international stakeholders.

- Valiant Richey, Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Organisation for Security and Co-operation (OSCE)
- Ilias Chatzis, Chief of the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
- Nina Gregori, Executive Director of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA)
