The technical meeting “Access to nationality for stateless persons”, jointly organized by the Council of Europe and the EMN Luxembourg within the framework of the EMN Platform on Statelessness will take place on 22 June 2023 in Luxembourg and online (Webex).
This meeting has several aims. Firstly, to provide networking opportunities to national experts working with issues of nationality and statelessness. The need for information and experience sharing was identified as highly important between experts during the last technical meeting hosted in Tallinn, Estonia on 7 December 2022. Secondly this event will serve as an opportunity to share the good practices on national approaches to provide access to nationality for stateless persons.
During the event updated EMN Inform “Statelessness in the European Union, Norway and Georgia” will be presented for the first time.
Addressing statelessness and access to nationality are among the priorities of the Council of Europe’s Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025). In 2021, the European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) published an analysis of current practices and challenges regarding the avoidance and reduction of statelessness in Europe. During the event, participants will learn more about actions carried by the Council of Europe in connection with statelessness and will have an opportunity to contribute to the reflection of the CDCJ in this field.
Participants are invited to exchange views as actively as possible to maximize the sharing of experience and difficulties encountered in this regard.
